We are there in Bangladesh to support people who have lost their homes, as flood is resending it is estimated 7.2 million people in need of "desperate need of shelter and emergency relief items" in the worst-hit Sylhet region, the IFRC said in a statement (France24 News)
To protect these families against future floods, and the current flood effected people we are building new houses upon raised land with deeply embedded concrete columns for added strength. With the area also prone to cyclones, the roof and structure are designed to resist the high winds
The Shelter will be used for multipurpose, so primarily when it is needed to shelter it will be used to provide accommodation for the victims of flood, secondly the shelter will be treated as a school for learning for children and adults.
We have already purchased land on higher ground, our target is to raise £40,000 to build this shelter.
